Spartanburg

Judith “Judy” Pierce Fleming, age 79, greeted her Heavenly Father on Saturday, December 16, 2023, in Spartanburg, South Carolina with her family by her side.

Judy was born on February 21, 1944, in Durham, North Carolina to the late Aubrey Johnson Pierce and Mary Ruby Betts Pierce.  She was an active member of Westgate Baptist Church in Spartanburg.

Judy graduated from Durham High School, Meredith College, and received a master’s degree from USCS.

Judy’s remarkable career as a social worker and administrator spanned over 40 years, where her natural empathy and desire to make a difference touched so many lives and leaves an indelible impact on those she served.

Beyond her professional achievements, Judy will be remembered for the love she shared with her husband, James "Jim" Fleming. Their marriage was built on love that grew stronger with each passing year. Judy’s marriage and her family were everything to her.

In addition to her devoted husband Jim, Judy is survived by daughter Karen Quimby Hatcher (Jimmy), son James D. Fleming (Brandy), and daughter Cheryl Fleming Finch (Mike). She was also a proud and loving grandmother to Aleah Hatcher Rabon (Kyle), Samuel Jameson Hatcher, James Hayden Fleming, and Brandon Thomas Fleming.

Outside of work and family, Judy found peace in writing, took great delight in tending to her houseplants, and cherished her church family and her BSF ladies.

Friends and family will gather to pay their respects at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel located at 2075 E Main St, Spartanburg, SC 29307 on Thursday, December 21, 2023.  Visitation will be held from 11:30 AM to 12:45 PM. Following the visitation, the funeral service will take place in the chapel from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, with Pastor James Wooten officiating.  Her burial ceremony will be held graveside at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood Glendale Rd, Spartanburg, SC 29307, immediately following the funeral service.

Judy was a joyful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who touched countless lives during her time on this earth. Her memory will forever be held dear by all those who were blessed to know her.

As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the beautiful life she lived, the legacy of joy and compassion she leaves behind, and all the eternal singing and dancing she is enjoying in Heaven with the Lord and all the angels.
