Joyce Annette Swofford, 85, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 6, 2024. Joyce is now reunited with her daughter Angie Lindsey, her other Swofford sisters, Frances Berry, Peggy Robinson, Nancy Richards, Polly Bullman, and their brother Joe Swofford, along with their parents Lewis and Ruth Swofford.
Joyce was born November 15, 1938, in Cowpens, SC. She was raised there with her siblings as her father ran a café and her mother ran a busy family. As a young woman after graduating high school and going to business school, Joyce moved to Florida to work for NASA. She also enjoyed time living and working in Washington DC before moving home to the Cowpens and the Spartanburg area to raise her own family of two girls, Angie Lindsey and Kimberley Linder.
Joyce was a natural caretaker, and a very patient Christian woman. She spent her life trying to make the lives of others better. She absolutely loved her grandchildren, Danielle Kirby and husband Kevin Kirby, Phillip Young and Austen Lindsey, and great-grandchildren Taylor Johnson, Nathan Johnson, Wyatt Kirby, Jaxson Kirby, and Destiny Stiles. She worked in accounting for many companies to include Spartan Foods, Denny’s, and J.F. Floyd’s Mortuary. She also loved spending time with her Swofford sisters on their many sister’s trips around the South and to Colorado.
She is survived by a loving family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, plus nieces and a nephew. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
