Joyce H. Littlefield passed peacefully at her home Thursday, March 21, 2024. She was born in Charleston, SC on June 5, 1935, to Carlisle Edward and Laura Anderson Higdon.

 

Mrs. Littlefield graduated from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing with Honors in 1956. In 1957 she married R.V. Littlefield and moved to Spartanburg.

 

She began a nursing career at Spartanburg General Hospital in 1957, serving the Spartanburg community. Her career spanned 37 years serving as Clinical Instructor for Medical Surgical Nursing, Director of Staff Development, Director of Psychiatry and Vice President for Patient Care Services. During her tenure at the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Joyce obtained advanced degrees in Nursing: a BSN from the University of South Carolina (Magna Cum Laude) in 1980 and a Master of Science in Family Health Nursing 1987 (Summa Cum Laude). She also contributed to the writing of the 100th Anniversary Book for Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

 

During her career, Mrs. Littlefield worked for Spartanburg Area Mental Health as a Community Health Nurse and Special Services Coordinator. She also volunteered her time with the Spartanburg Council on Aging and the Upstate SC Alzheimer’s Association.

 

Joyce was a member of the Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church serving as an Elder, was awarded Elder Emeritus, worked with the Youth programs and sang in the choir. She was a Leader in the county-wide Bible Study Fellowship.

 

Joyce loved the Spartanburg Community and touched countless lives with her kindness and compassion. She loved her music, gardening, animals, Clemson Football and The Masters Golf tournament.

 

Joyce was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, R.V. Littlefield. She is survived by her daughters, Beth Littlefield and Becky Littlefield; her special friend, Kylie Bishop; her Kitty, Elvira; and Becky’s dog, Corso.

 

Special Thanks to her caregivers, Judy, Sissy and especially Pam and Spartanburg Regional Hospice, especially Donna, Christina, Isha and Shay. 

 

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Sunday, March 24, 2024, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Monday, March 25, 2024, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel conducted by the Rev. Dr. B. E. Pettit and Mrs. Nancy Rogers. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum.
