Joyce Jacobs Hunt, 89, died Monday, December 7, 2020 at Summit Hills Skilled Nursing Facility in Spartanburg, SC. Born June 23, 1931 in Robeson County, NC, she was the daughter of the late James Ansel and Mildred Oxendine Jacobs. Joyce held a BA Degree in English from Pembroke State University in Pembroke, NC and a Master's Degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. She taught English and Business Education in the North Carolina Public School System and in the city of Falls Church, VA., where she loved teaching and was an avid reader with a quick wit and a compassionate heart. Joyce retired in 2005 with her husband, Air Force Major Woodward Hunt to Rolling Green Retirement Community in Greenville, SC where he died in 2006. Unfortunately Joyce suffered from MS and later resided at Oakleaf Assisted Living Facility in Greenville, SC for several years after which she moved to Summit Hills Assisted Living in Spartanburg, SC in August 2016 and later moved to Skilled Nursing at Summit Hills. Joyce was predeceased by two sisters, Audrey Snipes of The Villages, Florida and Edith Davis of Hiawassee, GA. Survivors include her daughter, Joy E. Lowry, and husband, Todd Caniglia of San Francisco, CA; brothers, James A. Jacobs Jr. and wife Brenda, Ronald T. Jacobs and wife Cecy, all of Spartanburg, SC, two step-sons and two step-daughters, Woodard Hunt Jr. of Falls Church, VA, Carol Hunt of Winston Salem, NC, Charles Hunt of St. Petersburg, FL and Connie Cheatham of Thompson, GA, along with several nieces and nephews. She was a member of The Covenant United Methodist Church in Greer, SC. Visitation will be 11:00-11:45 AM Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A graveside service will follow at 12:00 PM in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
