Joyce Murray Browning, of Spartanburg, died Tuesday, January 7, 2024, at her home. A native of Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late William (Bill) Dexter and Ethel Katherine Bowen Murray.
She was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and attended the Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing. She was an Administrative Assistant at Spartan Mills Corporate Offices and retired after 15 years of service at the J. F. Floyd Mortuary. She was a charter member of Eastside Baptist Church and served as Church Clerk, President of Baptist Women and served on various other committees. She was a member of The Wofford Lawson Sunday School Class of Faith and The Golden Agers. She loved all of God’s nature-growing plants, watching the birds and animals. Some of her favorite times were beach trips to Edisto Island and holiday get-to-gathers with the family. She was a fifteen-year cancer survivor.
She is survived by her husband, Edward C. Browning; daughters, Leslie B. Lybrand (Bill) of Murrells Inlet, SC and Dana B. Anglin of Spartanburg; son, Aaron M. Baughman of Spartanburg; six grandchildren, Lara Lea Lybrand, Jillian L. Dean (James), Trey Lybrand (Anna), Britney Lobo, Breanna Baez and Grace Baughman; seven great grandchildren, Julian Martinez, Eliza Kate Dean, Evie Caroline Dean, Jamison Goodwin, Everly Goodwin, James Dean V and Shiloh Baez. She was predeceased by an infant daughter.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, from 10:00 to 10:45 am at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am in the chapel, conducted by the Rev. Daniel Kuhr and the Rev. Joey Burnett. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eastside Baptist Church Building Fund, 1850 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
