Joy Draper Pettit, 89, formerly of Spartanburg, SC, died Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Norton Brownsboro Hospital, Louisville, KY. Born January 23, 1924 in Kettering, Northants, England, she was the daughter of the late Cecil Porter and Catherine Elizabeth Becks Draper and wife of the late Harold William Pettit. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. Mrs. Pettit served in the English Fire Service during WWII. Surviving are sons, Harold W. Pettit and wife Brenda of West Palm Beach, FL and John Draper Pettit and wife Shannon of Gainesville, FL; daughter, Dianne Pettit VanHorn and husband Tom of Louisville, KY; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Teresa and Phillip Foster; grandchildren, Grace Pettit and John Pettit, Jr.; and great-granddaughter, Angela Sewell. Joy will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was an exceptional Wife, Mother, Grandma and Grandmama. We all celebrate with her as she has gone to her eternal resting place with her beloved Lord and family. She spent many hours enjoying her hobbies of knitting, swimming, walking, and reading. Some of her happiest moments were spent with children and her pets. Her homeland of England always held a precious spot in her heart. One of her greatest accomplishments was raising a God loving family. Visitation will be 2:00-2:45 PM Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM conducted by the Rev. Sal Barone. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, 250 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
