Joseph "Joe" Alexander Gowan, 67, died Friday, April 29, 2011, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born July 15, 1943, in Spartanburg, he was a son of the late Otis Arthur and Mary Alberta Smith Gowan. He was employed by Pet Dairy and was a Mason, a Shriner, and a member of First Baptist Church of North Spartanburg. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Georgialene Gilbert Gowan; a son, Joseph "Jody" Pinkney Gowan and wife Erika of Spartanburg; a brother, Gerald Gowan; a sister, Rachel Martin; two sisters-in-law, Norma Cantrell and husband Randy, and Inez Hinson; a brother-in-law, Fred Gilbert and wife Connie; and several great-nieces and nephews that dearly loved their Uncle Joe. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 PM on Sunday, May 1, 2011, at Floyd's Boiling Springs Chapel. Graveside services with Masonic Rites will be 3:00 PM on Monday, May 2, 2011, at Boiling Springs Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Wayne Davis and the Rev. Tim Stephens.
