Joseph Dorton

Joseph "Joe" Edward Dorton, 86, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born December 21, 1927 in Bluefield, VA, he was the son of the late Daniel Frank and Mary Tiller Dorton, and was the husband of Carolyn Kimbrell Dorton. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War. He was a charter member of New Beginnings United Methodist Church and retired from McClean Trucking Company. Joe's great passion was playing golf. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kim Huffman and her husband, Chris of Columbia, SC; two grandchildren, Cameron Huffman and Elizabeth Huffman, both of Columbia, SC; and a nephew, Jimmy Dorton of Roanoke, VA. He was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth D. Crowell; and a brother, Daniel F. Dorton, Jr. Visitation will be 2:00-2:45 PM Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at New Beginnings United Methodist Church, 210 Rainbow Lake Road, Boiling Springs, SC 29316. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM at the church, conducted by the Rev. Terry Flemming and the Rev. Ken Owens. Burial will be in Good Shepherd Memorial Park with military honors, 4164 Boiling Springs Road, Boiling Springs, SC 29316. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Beginnings United Methodist Church, 210 Rainbow Lake Road, Boiling Springs, SC 29316. The family is at the home.
