Joseph Dorchak

Dr. Joseph Dorchak, 78, of Landrum, SC, died Thursday, January 24, 2013, at his home. Born May 2, 1934, in Cleveland, OH, he was the son of the late Joseph John and Julia Lewis Dorchak and husband of the late Marjo Ann Schmidter Dorchak. Dr. Dorchak completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Cincinnati, OH and completed his graduate and medical training at the University of Kentucky. In Spartanburg, he expanded and started Cardiac Services as Director of Cardio-Pulmonary Laboratories. Today, his medical practice continues as Cardiology Consultants PA. Along with many other professional associations, he was a member of the American Medical Association, SC Medical Association, American Heart Association, Fellow of American College of Cardiology and Flying Physicians Association. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Tryon, NC. Survivors include his children, Marjo Gazak (Bob), Julie Stephenson (Ronnie), Joseph Dorchak (Sharin), James Dorchak (Lori), Jennifer Hardee (Jeff), and Jill Strickler; 16 grandchildren; and brother, Thomas Dorchak (Eileen). In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a grandson, Joshua Dorchak. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Monday, January 28, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, by the Rev. Timothy M. Gahan. Dr. Dorchak's family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in his honor be made to Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System Foundation, 101 East Wood Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303; St. Paul the Apostle Catholic School, 152 Alabama Avenue, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or St. Joseph's Catholic School, 100 St. Joseph's Drive, Greenville, SC 29607.
