Joseph Bennett Cook, 82, of Boiling Springs, died Friday, April 12, 2013, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born December 28, 1930, in Union Grove, NC, he was the youngest child of Millard and Florence Cook and grew up working on the family farm with his five older siblings. He was first married to Jean Walton Cook who passed away in 1996. Joe served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956, including active duty during the Korean War. Following his military service, he completed his business degree at Pheiffer University. Joe worked several years with the Banana Fruit Company before embarking on his career with the State of Georgia Department of Agriculture. He retired as a supervisor in the Agriculture Seed Inspection Division. Joe's interests during retirement included traveling with his wife, visiting with family and friends, playing golf, and following his favorite sports teams. He was an active member of his Sunday school class at First Baptist North Spartanburg. His friendly nature and kind spirit will be missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Martha Burnett Cook; stepdaughter, Joy Grigg; stepgrandaughters, Caroline and Madison Thebodeau; brother, Paul Cook; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 15, 2013, at Good Shepherd Mausoleum, Boiling Springs, SC, conducted by Mr. Wayne Casasanta, Mr. Bill Creech, and Mr. Charles Ginn. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum. The family expresses appreciation to residents and staff of Wesley Court for their exceptional love and support while Joe was in their care.
