Joseph E. Brown, 76, of Spartanburg, died Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills, after a 3-year battle with cancer. Born August 11, 1936 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Paul Jones and Tessa Mae Cash Brown. Mr. Brown was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and a 12 year veteran of the U. S. Air Force having served during the Vietnam War. He was formerly employed with Scharer and Buser America for 30 years, then started his own business, Trans Man in Durham, NC, and later retired from Reeves Brothers in the Research and Development Department. He was a fixture at all the local classic car shows and won many awards for his customized 1956 Ford F-100. His truck was featured in two national classic truck magazines. Survivors include his beloved wife of 56 years, Judy Brown; daughters, Jodi Brown Carter and Jill Brown Sanders (Mike); seven grandchildren, Billy Swanlund (Rebecca), Shannon, Brandon, Blake, Bret, and Savannah Carter, and Lorelei Sanders; three great-grandchildren, Logan, Tyler, & MaKenna. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service with military rites by the U. S. Air Force will be held at 2:30 PM, Tuesday, November 20, 2012 in Good Shepherd Memorial Park, conducted by Chaplain Dean Elliott. The family is at the home.
