Jolly Davis

Jolly Perry Davis, 75, of Spartanburg, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care. Born July 14, 1937, in Conway, SC, he was the son of the late Walter Swinton and Mary Edna Morree Davis and husband of the late Ann Crosby Davis. A U. S. Army Special Forces (Green Beret) veteran, Mr. Davis enlisted in the Army in 1959. He received intensive, specialized training in covert activities and clandestine communications. He was assigned to various Special Operations Groups in Ethiopia, Republic of Panama, and Vietnam. He was discharged in 1966 as a decorated Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict and "The Cold War." He was interviewed by the Paramilitary Group of the CIA in 1967. He retired after 30 years of service with Hess Oil Company as terminal manager having served in Georgetown and Spartanburg. He also worked in the transportation department at the SC School for the Deaf & Blind. Survivors include nieces, Hilda Stott of Norfolk, VA, Diane Blankenship and Pamela Addison, both of Virginia Beach, VA; and nephew, Michael Huning of Marysville, WA. He was predeceased by his sisters, Evelyn Green and Joyce Huning; brothers, James Davis and Howard Davis; and nephews, Walter Green and Douglas Green. Visitation will be 12:30-1:45 PM Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 PM, in Heritage Memorial Gardens, Roebuck, SC, by the Rev. Wallace Sharpe.
