John “Buddy” Ward Lawson, III, 65, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, June 12, 2022 at his home. Born December 31, 1956 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of Shirley Kirby Lawson of the home and the late John Ward Lawson, Jr.
A US Army Reserve and National Guard veteran, Mr. Lawson was a retired plumber and pipe fitter with various construction companies in the area for many years. Buddy was a member of Plumbers Union #421.
Buddy loved his entire family, especially his grandchildren. A practical joker and entertainer, he was never critical of others.
A grill master, he grilled the best steaks! He was a lover of golf and enjoyed fishing but was a hardcore NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt fan.
Survivors include his mother, Shirley Lawson, his daughter, Kassie Lawson and her fiancé, Tyler Welliver of Boiling Springs, SC, his son, Evan J. Lawson of Gaffney, SC, his grandchildren, Abigail, Brooklyn, Russell, and Krista, his sisters, Robbie Brunson and her fiancé, Tommy Manibusan of Inman, SC and Tracy Reynolds (Mike) of Boiling Springs, SC, his former wife and friend, Freida Westbrooks of Moore, SC.
Visitation will be at 11:30 am – 12:45 pm Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A Celebration of Life service will be at 1:00 pm at the chapel, conducted by The Rev. Keith Davis. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Pallbearers are Tyler Welliver, Tommy Manibusan, David Brunson, Alan Brunson, Kody Wheeler, Russell Lawson and Mike Reynolds.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Hill Baptist Church, 2817 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
