John Thomas Zimmerman, 90, of Spartanburg, SC, ended his earthly journey on Thursday, August 27, 2015, at his home. Born August 28, 1924, in the Golightly Community of Spartanburg, he was the son of the late John Henry Samuel Zimmerman and Gladys Hayes Zimmerman. A U. S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Zimmerman served at Fort Benning, GA, Camp Hill, CO, and Seattle, WA. He was one of the youngest teenage employees at Camp Croft, working in the PX, and was a member of American Legion Post #28. He retired from Phillips Petroleum after 20 years of service 1955-1975. He was an avid golfer, loved to work in the yard, and enjoyed playing cards with his buddies. Survivors include his beloved wife of 64 years, Paula Faye "Patsy" Robbins Zimmerman; children, Robin Thomas Zimmerman of Spartanburg, SC, Joseph E. Zimmerman (partner, Glenn Price Jr.) of Louisville, KY, and Paula Ann Zimmerman Jolly (James W. Jolly) of Pauline, SC; grandchildren, Amy Jolly (Mark Jones) of Marion, NC, James Andrew Jolly of Roebuck, SC, and Amanda Jolly of Easley, SC; and great-grandchildren, Chasten Jackman and Joshua Jones, Isabella Ann Clark, and Hope Marie Clark. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a sister, Virginia Phillips; and brothers, Charles Zimmerman and Samuel Zimmerman. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 AM Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM, at the Chapel, conducted by Mr. Conrad Lipscomb. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
