John Young

John Blake Young, 61, of 5 Misty Vale Court, died Thursday, September 16, 2010, at North Greenville Hospital. Born December 7, 1948 in Laurel, MS, he was the son of the late Homer Theron and JLE Huff Young. He received his Master of Arts degree in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX and his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Communication from the University of Southern Mississippi. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg where he was the Minister of Business Affairs and Controller and was an active member of the National Association of Church Business Administrators. He loved his Lord, his wife Debbie, his church and church family, and his beloved four legged child, Maggie. Survivors include his wife, Debra Hill Young; a brother, Dr. H. Edwin Young and wife Jobeth of Houston, TX; three nephews, Ed Young and wife Lisa of Flower Mound, TX, Ben Young, and Cliff Young and wife Danielle, all of Houston, TX; and ten great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday, September 19, 2010 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 20, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, conducted by the Dr. Donald J. Wilton and the Ministry Team. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be B. B. Bryson, Greg Williams, Tom Leopard, Steve Smith, Jim Ballew, Bob Tillotson, Hal Hall, and Mike Swaim. Honorary Escort will be all past and present Finance Team members of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg and also all First Baptist Church Ministers and Staff. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, General Budget Fund, 250 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306. The family is at the home.
