John Wood

John Lawrence Wood, 91, of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Mr. Wood was born December 19, 1922, in Clifton, SC. He was the son of the late Miles B. and Sally Pettit Wood. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. Wood was a graduate of Cowpens High School and attended Cecil's Business College. A veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Army Air Corps, Mr. Wood was retired from Sears and following his retirement, he was employed with American Security. He was a member of First Baptist Church North Spartanburg, a Mason, and Shriner. Survivors include his beloved wife of 67 years, Annie Mae Hyleman Wood; daughters, Patricia W. Hasty (James) of Spartanburg and Penny Cardell (Ken) of Landrum; grandchildren, Jennifer Hasty of Spartanburg, Lawrence Powell (Lauren) and Lindsey Powell, all of Hilton Head; and great-granddaughter, Lola Powell. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday, November 21, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by the Rev. Dr. Michael S. Hamlet and the Rev. Alex Stevenson. Visitation will follow the service at the chapel. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Memorials may be made to Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family is at the home.
