John Wilson

January 13, 1941 — January 9, 2011

John Randolph "Randy" Wilson, Sr., 69, died Sunday, January 9, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville. Born on January 13, 1941, in Gaithersburg, MD, he was a son of the late Dr. Herman M. and Lillian Earnest Wilson. He graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College, and received a Masters of Education degree from Western Maryland College. He was an educator and administrator in the Maryland Public School System. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg where he was a deacon, member of the Pastor's Class, past president of Young at Heart, past president of Yesterday's Teens Senior Choir and a volunteer for the Helping Ministries Center. He loved the outdoors, and was an avid hiker, cyclist, and traveler. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sue Mason Wilson; two sons, John R. Wilson, Jr. and wife Tina of Spartanburg, and Joseph M. Wilson of Dallas, GA; seven grandchildren: Daniel, Phillip, Catherine, Nathan, Isabella, Juliana and Jonathan Wilson; one brother, Dr. Robert J. Wilson, Sr., of Gaithersburg, MD; and nine nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Richard A. Wilson and Ronald H. Wilson. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 14, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Donald J. Wilton, Rev. Sal Barone, Rev. Bill Adams, Rev. Steve Skinner and Rev. Dr. John Wilton. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Helping Ministries Center, 250 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
