John White, Sr.

John Belton White, Sr., 89, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, February 13, 2011, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born January 24, 1922, he was the son of the late William Rush and Neina Jackson White and husband of the late Mary Burnett White. Mr. White was the owner and operator of the Beacon Drive-In from November 25, 1946 to May 1, 1998. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WWII. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, John Belton White Jr. and Karen Moore White of Landrum, William Lewis White and Sally Mahony White of Spartanburg, and David George White and Donna Hawke White of Spartanburg; 11 grandchildren, Farrell W. (David C.) Mason of Nashville, TN. Mahaley W. (Clayton L.) Jennings of Greenville, Mary Carlisle W. (Ben S. III) Gambill of New York City, NY, Belle W. (John D,) Montgomery of Spartanburg, May Harrison White (W. Brennan) Spry of New York City, NY, Ramsey W. (W. Chase) Corn of Nashville, TN, William Lewis White, Jr. of Spartanburg, Lawson White (Sean K.) Jenkins of Charlottesville, VA, Molly Mahony White of Washington, DC, Catherine White (John L.) Tucker of Spartanburg, and David George White, Jr. of Spartanburg; and 14 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Morningside Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Kirk H. Neely. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum.
