John Walters Sr.

John Paul Walters, Sr., 74, of Moore, SC, died Saturday, July 25, 2015 at the Medical University of South Carolina, surrounded by his family. Born February 9, 1941, in Marlboro County, SC, he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Walters, Sr. and Bertha Turner Walters. John was retired as a production manager for Watts Regulator and a courier for Celligent Company. He was the founder and pastor for four years at Blenheim Church of God and served Barton Memorial Church of Greer. He was a member and supply pastor at Hope Baptist Church. He had many loves, which included camping, flying as a private pilot, lifetime member of the NRA, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Betty Freeman Walters; sons, Donald Walters (Daphne) of Barnwell, SC; John Paul Walters, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Fountain Inn, SC; daughter, Amy Shults (Brent) of Sevierville, TN; grandchildren, Keeton Shults, Macy Shults, Auburn Walters, Alyssa Walters, John Paul Walters, III, and Jebediah Daniel Walters; brothers, Benjamin Franklin Walters, Jr. of Patterson, NJ; Calvin (CC) Locklear, of Brooklyn, NY; sisters, Janice Locklear of East Brunswick, NJ; Mary Rudowski of Brooklyn, NY; Debbie Spivak of NY; and his canine love, "Toby." Visitation was 6:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Floyd's North Church St. Chapel, 235 N. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29306. Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Floyd's North Church St. Chapel, by the Rev. Craig Seahord and the Rev. Wesley Montgomery. Burial was in Westwood Memorial Gardens, 6101 Reidville Road, Moore, SC 29369. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the John P. Walters Memorial Fund, PO Drawer 1530, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
