John Taylor Varner, Jr., 89, of Spartanburg, died Saturday, December 19, 2009, at White Oak Estates. Born November, 14, 1920, in Spartanburg County, SC, he was the son of the late John Taylor and Eugenie McCombs Varner. He was first married to the late Sarah Quinn Varner and then to the late Earnestine "Teany" White Varner. He was employed as a machinist for 51 years at Glendale Mill and Beaumont Mill and was a member of First Baptist Church of Pacolet. Survivors include a son, John Taylor Varner III, and his wife Pat of Greenville; a daughter, Linda V. Pickel and her husband William of Greenville; three step-daughters, Cathy White of Pacolet, Carole W. Morris and her husband Terry of Pacolet, and Jean W. George and her husband Ronnie of Inman; grandchildren, Michael D. Trammell and his wife Janna of Spartanburg, Elizabeth Varner Broadwell and her husband Charles of Greenville, Lance Morris of Pacolet, Todd George of Inman, and Amanda Blackwell of Inman; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Kelly Trammell of Greenville, David Trammell of Spartanburg, Ellie Broadwell of Greenville, McKenzie Morris of Pacolet, and Grant Morris of Pacolet. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 20, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 21, 2009, at the Chapel conducted by the Rev. Tommy Sparks and the Rev. Clarence Crocker. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Glendale Cemetery fund, c/o Paul D.
