John Smith

Johnny Tilman Smith, 77, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014, after a brief illness. Born May 4, 1936, in Whitney, SC, he was the son of the late Clyde Lester and Bertie Allen Smith. A U. S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Smith was a retired supervisor from Kohler Company after 40 years of service. Following retirement he was employed part-time with Woodfin Ridge Golf Course. He was a devoted Christian, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and avid golfer. Surviving is his beloved wife of 55 years, Peggy J. Smith; children, Karen LeCroy (Phil) of Gaffney, SC, and Tim Smith (Wanda) of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Holly and Matthew LeCroy of Gaffney, Jennifer S. McCraw and Joel Smith of Spartanburg, SC; four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Diane Bush and Marcy Horne of Boiling Springs, SC. Visitation will be 12:30-2:30 PM Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Danny Garrett. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Honorary escort will be members of the Seekers Sunday School Class. The family is at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Wanda Smith.
