John Steadman

John Calhoun Steadman, 91, of Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, February 5, 2016 at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born October 17, 1924, in Lyman, SC, he was the son of the late Carroll and Annie Hallman Steadman. John was a U.S. Navy veteran and retired from Southern Bell. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and woodworking. John was a handyman that enjoyed nothing more than helping others. Whatever needed to be done; he could do. He lived to help and provide for his family. Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years, Sara Cobb Steadman; son, Chris Steadman of Greenville, SC; daughter, Linda Robertson of Spartanburg, SC; granddaughters, Jamie Robertson of Spartanburg, Lindsey Cannon (Ashley) of Lexington, SC; and Anna Robertson of Spartanburg, SC; great-grandchildren, Jackson Lee Cannon, Hudson Cannon and Graham Cannon. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by a brother, Jack Steadman and a sister, Elaine Peterson. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, February 8, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by the Rev. Heidi Campbell-Robinson. The eulogy will be given by Mr. Ashley Cannon. Visitation will follow in the chapel. Entombment will be in the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Complex, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 105 McKay Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302 or to the charity of one's choice.
