John Smith

John Maxwell "JM" Smith, 81, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born July 21, 1934, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late John "Max" and Annie Lou Rogers Smith. Survivors include his beloved wife of 57 years, Betty Belue Smith of the home; daughter, Debbie Ballenger of Boiling Springs, SC; five grandchildren, Brandi, Ashley, Jeremy, Tyler, and Lindsy; five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Jo Easler (Charles) of Spartanburg, SC, Bobbie Wingo of Inman, SC, and Jean Abercrombie of Orlando, FL. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Roger J. Smith; and sisters, Doris Sawyer, Freddie Ballenger, and Brenda Splawn. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Thursday, January 7, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Daryl Tolleson. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
