John "Sam" Samuel Coakley

J. Samuel “Sam” Coakley passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 4, 2025 at the age of 84. He was born in Harrisonburg, Virginia, to the late Nancy and John Coakley.

Sam was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan. He is survived by their three children, John Parrish Coakley, Mary Claire Tillotson (Joe), and Andrew Christian Coakley (Kate), and five grandchildren, Sam, Grayson, August, Solomon, and Belle, as well as a sister, Bonnie Williams (Wayne).

Sam was loved by many in the community, having been a longtime member of Second Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg and also a longtime employee of Spartanburg Water/Sanitary Sewer District. He was well known for his work ethic and his love for Studebakers including the ones he tinkered with and showed as a part of the Studebaker Drivers Club for many years.

The family will receive visitation at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 10:30 AM, with graveside services to follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Sam’s memory to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund.
