John Alfred Needy III of Spartanburg, SC died Saturday, January 8, 2022 at his home. Born November 17, 1948 in Oswego, NY, he was the son of the late John Alfred Needy, Jr. and Celeste Humphreys Morrison.
A 1967 graduate of Myers Park High School in Charlotte, NC, and he also attended one year at August Military Academy in Fort Defiance, VA. In 1968-1969, he attended Schreiner College in Kerrville, Texas on a Basketball scholarship. John went on to attend auctioneering school and Central Piedmont Community College, then graduated from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC in 1976.
John worked for the City of Charlotte as a housing inspector, where he retired in 1998. He owned Needy Auction and Appraisal Company, Catawba Stockyard and South Fork Ostrich Ranch.
He was a member of Spartanburg Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years, Nancy Nunnamaker Needy, his children, Mary Elizabeth Wall (Andrew) and Stephen J. Needy, his grandchildren, Audrey Elizabeth Wall and Maverick Daxx Wall, his siblings, Carole Needy Scovel (Terry) of Charlotte, NC, William Brian Needy (Karen) of Alton, VA, nieces, Holly Needy of Colinsville, VA and Kimberly Scovel Schermerhorn of Wagner, SC, nephew, Barry Todd Scovel (Heather) of Charlotte, NC, great nieces and nephews, Ashley Taylor Scovel, Brandon Tyler Scovel, Hunter Scovel, Myiah Terry, Mashaylah Terry, Caleb Coles, Kyiah Coles, Kayli Coles.
Along with his parents, he is also predeceased by a niece, Heather Michelle Needy.
