John Francis McCormack, 88, of Spartanburg and Hilton Head Island, SC, died Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Hilton Head Hospital. Born September 7, 1927, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of Blanche Dengel McCormack. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Patricia Mary Hynes McCormack; daughter, Patricia Ann Farrar; mother, Blanche McCormack; and brother, Bobby McCormack. John is survived by five children and their spouses, John and Becky McCormack of Lexington, SC, Laurie and Rick Murphy of Pickens, SC, Donna and Ken Murphy of Pawleys Island, SC, Kay Kay and Ray Wells of Pawleys Island, SC, and Kevin and Greta McCormack of Spartanburg, SC; as well as his 12 grandchildren: Adam Farrar (Tiffany), Taylor and Stephen McCormack, Wesley and Elliot Murphy, Marshall, Chandler, and Lawson Murphy, Raymond and Crayton Wells, and Karly and Mally McCormack; and one great-grandson, Michael Farrar. John is also survived by two brothers and their wives, Joseph and Marie Louise McCormack, Francis and Peggy McCormack, and Bobby's wife, Eileen McCormack; and 31 nieces and nephews. Upon returning from his service in the U. S. Navy during World War II, John graduated from St. Francis College. John took great pride in his 28-year career as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Following his retirement with the FBI, he began a career in banking as Vice-President in Charge of Internal Investigations. In addition to spending time with his family, John enjoyed attending functions with his extended family of the Former Special Agents of the FBI and their spouses. As a devoted Catholic, John was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Spartanburg for 60 years and a regular visitor of Holy Family Catholic Church in Hilton Head Island for over 30 years. Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 PM Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, April 11, 2016, at Historic St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, by the Rev. David R. Whitman. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church Building Fund, 161 North Dean Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or the J. Edgar Hoover Memorial Scholarship, c/o Spartanburg Methodist College, 1000 Powell Mill Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301.
