John Perry Lyles, Jr., 62, of Spartanburg, died Sunday, August 30, 2009, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born February 14, 1947, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late John Perry Lyles, Sr. and Frances Loyless Lyles. He was a Master Deputy at the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office with 35 years of service, having risen to the rank of First Sergeant. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Roughnecks Motorcycle Club, a former Mason, and a Law Enforcement instructor. Survivors include his wife, Darlene Hall Lyles; three daughters, Danna Lyles Knight and her husband Jeff of Spartanburg, Rebekah Robin Bradley and her husband James of Roebuck, and Patricia Lyles and her friend Bryson Graves of Spartanburg; five grandchildren, Zack Knight, Kyle Knight, and Olivia Knight of Spartanburg, Emma Bradley and Victoria Bradley of Roebuck; a brother, Sonny Boyd Lyles and his wife Gail, and a niece Julie and her husband Frank, all of Houston, TX; and his "best friend", Kevin W. Jones of Gainesville, GA. Visitation will be 6:00-9:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 2009, at Evangel Cathedral conducted by the Jerry Clevenger and the Rev. Rex Keaton. Burial with law enforcement honors by the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office will be in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Honorary Escort will be members of the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office and other law enforcement agencies.
