John Lee Iii

November 11, 1943 — July 27, 2013

John B. Lee, III, 69, of Spartanburg, SC, died Saturday, July 27, 2013 at his home. After a two and half year courageous battle with a cruel disease, the Lord was merciful and took John to his home in Heaven. Please pray for Kay and her family. Born November 11, 1943 in Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late John B. Lee, Jr. and Willie Mae (Billie) Hicks. Mr. Lee was a retired Major with the Spartanburg City Public Safety Department after 27 years of service, a member of the Spartanburg Lion's Club for over 20 years, and served on numerous committees and boards to benefit those in Spartanburg County. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corp serving four and a half years in Okinawa and a graduate of Wofford College in 1975. Surviving are his wife, Kay Staggs Lee; children, Brandy Lindsay of Spartanburg and John B. Lee, IV of Greenville; and step-son, Lee Staggs (Wendy) of Spartanburg. Visitation will be 1:30-2:45 PM Thursday, August 1, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. A memorial service with military rites by the SC State Guard Honors Team and The Spartanburg Public Safety Department Honor Guard will follow at 3:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Clevenger and the Rev. Arthur Lindsey. No flowers please, in lieu of all flowers, memorials are requested to be made to The Salvation Army, PO Drawer 2909, Spartanburg, SC 29301; or Children Shelter of the Upstate, PO Box 2663, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
