John Lawson Jr.

July 4, 1921 — January 18, 2017

John Henry Lawson Jr., 95, of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born July 4, 1921, in Spartanburg County, SC, he was the son of the late John Henry Lawson Sr. and Luna McBride Lawson and husband for 73 years to the late Mavis Ruth Stacy Lawson. A U. S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Lawson was licensed in 1950 as an amateur radio operator under the sign "W4BPN". He retired from Startex Mills, was also an experienced TV and radio repairman, and a member of Life Spring Church. Survivors include his sons, John Stanley "Stan" Lawson (Linda) of Boiling Springs, SC and Jacky Lynn Lawson of Walterboro, SC; four grandchildren, Susan Lawson Blackwood (Richey), Melissa Anne Lawson, Cindel Maria Lawson, and Cameron Lyle Lawson (Stevie); three great-grandchildren, Tristan Richard Blackwood, Reece Adam Blackwood, and Vivian Lou Lawson; and sister, Ruth Shannon of Wayne, NJ. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a sister, Sarah Lussardi. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 PM Monday, January 23, 2017, at Boiling Springs Memorial Gardens, 4081 Hwy 9 N, Boiling Springs, SC 29316, by the Rev. Terry Fleming and the Rev. Nate Didway. Visitation will follow at the graveside. The family is at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Linda Lawson.
