John Hunter

John Bradley Hunter, 90, of Spartanburg, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at Valley Falls Terrace. Born September 1, 1921, in Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late John Holden and Stella Bradley Hunter. Mr. Hunter was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, retired from Clement Lumber Company, and was a member of Ben Avon United Methodist Church. He was a 33rd Degree Mason, life member, past master, and held numerous offices including secretary, of Glendale Masonic Lodge #271. Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Helen Petty Chadwick Hunter; daughter, Linda Chadwick Gretten of Gaffney, SC; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Christine Hunter Nichols of Spartanburg; brother, George Hunter of Spartanburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Larry Monte Chadwick; sisters, Louise H. Ussery, Myrtle H. Larson, and Ann Hunter; and a brother, William L. Hunter. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Thursday, May 24, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jones Brewer. Burial, with Masonic rites, will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ben Avon United Methodist Church, 2360 Avondale Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
