John Hansel

November 15, 1931 — July 28, 2015

John Thomas Hansel, Jr., 83, of Boiling Springs, SC, died Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at his home. Born November 15, 1931, in Harlin County, KY, he was the son of the late, John Thomas Hansel, Sr. and Georgia Blanton Hansel. A U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean War serving on the USS Weiss, Mr. Hansel was a retired maintenance supervisor with American Fabric. He loved to fish, was an avid golfer, and was loyal to his church, First Baptist Spartanburg. Survivors include his beloved wife of 63 years, Ida Lee Stacy Hansel; children, Mike Hansel (Abby) of Prestonsburg, KY, Debbie Pennington (James) of Whitesburg, KY, and Sharon Sexton (Mark) of Boiling Springs, SC; grandchildren, Brandon, Kelli, Canaan and Leah; six great grandchildren; and sisters, Janice Birchwell of Clarksville, TN and Gail Frederick of Trenton, KY. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a son, Jonathan Lee Hansel and brother, Bobby Hansel. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 30, 2015, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel, 235 N. Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306, conducted by the Rev. Sal Barone. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615 or First Baptist Spartanburg, 250 East Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29306.
