John Edwin Foster, aged 97, of Spartanburg, SC, died January 21, 2025, at the Rosecrest Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Inman SC. Born November 22, 1927, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Paul Benton Foster and Julia Harris Foster. Edwin was predeceased by his wife of 73 years, Hallie Park Foster.
Mr. Foster was a graduate of Wofford College with a major in Business Administration. He was a local business owner. Mr. Foster was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, and until his health declined, he was an active member of Wildlife Action Inc., Upstate Chapter. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening, and family and military history. He was a licensed airplane pilot.
He was a member of Wofford College ROTC, and served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army.
Survivors include his daughter, Paula Glenn Foster Paul and husband Jimmie Franklin Paul of Spartanburg;his grandson, Jason Michael Paul and wife Jessie Swann Paul of Lake Wylie, SC; great-granddaughters, Olivia Margaret Paul and Joanna Elizabeth Paul; great-grandson, Samuel Foster Paul; nephew, Mark Edward Foster and niece, Julia Anna Foster, and goddaughter, Rebecca Littlefield.
A service honoring his life will be held at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC, on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 2:00 PM, with visitation to follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second Presbyterian Church, 438 North Church Street, Spartanburg SC 29303.
