John Fant Jr.

John "Jack" Roy Fant, Jr., 98, of Lyman, SC, died Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills-Landrum. Born January 13, 1918, in Lockhart, SC, he was the son of the late John R. Fant, Sr. and Nathalie Hunter Fant and husband of the late June Ione Heffron Fant. Mr. Fant served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He attended both the University of South Carolina and Clemson University and was a retired department and outlet store manager with M. Lowenstein & Sons. He dedicated many years of community service to numerous organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America, United Way, Ruritan Club, J. F. Byrnes High School Booster Club, and Lyman Town Council. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Advent. Survivors include his sons, J. Roy Fant III (Dian) of Atlanta, GA, Robert "Bo" Fant (Libby) of Inman, SC, and Thomas Williamson Fant (Juell) of Arab, AL; grandson, Zachary E. Fant, of Greenville, SC; and sister-in-law, Christie Zimmerman Fant of Columbia, SC. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a grandson, five brothers, and one sister. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday, November 25, 2016, at The Episcopal Church of the Advent, by The Rev. J. Edward Morris and The Rev. Stephen Y. McGehee. A reception will follow the service in The Parish and Community Life Center. Burial with military honors will be private.
