John West

John Evans "Jim" West, 82, of Spartanburg, died Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born June 8, 1928 in Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late John Archie and Banna Theo West, and the husband of Frances Miller West. He was retired after 43 years of service from Hammond Brown Jennings Furniture Company (Goodwill Store). He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church and was active in the Royal Sunday School Class. In addition to his wife of 62 years, he is survived by one son, John Marshall West and wife Marlene Thomas West of Spartanburg; one daughter, Nancy Jane Williams and husband John Gilmore Williams of Chapin; one grandson, Jason Williams of Chapin; and two great-grandchildren, River and Stella Williams. He adored his family, including Duke, his basset hound "grandson." He was predeceased by a sister, Doris West Thomas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2010 at Morningside Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Kirk H. Neely. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:45 a.m. in the Welcome Center of the Church. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Royal Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials may be made to the Morningside Baptist Church Building Fund, 897 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302. The family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care rendered to Mr. West during his illness by the staff of Cardiology Consultants, Piedmont Internal Medicine, Magnolia Place, Park Place Assisted Living, Mary Black Memorial Hospital and the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.
