John Mitchell

December 2, 1917 — February 4, 2010

John Ephram Mitchell, 92, of Inman, SC, died Thursday, February 4, 2010, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born December 2, 1917, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late John Victor (Vic) and Mamie Poteat Mitchell. He was retired from Mascot Mobile Homes, a member of Inman First Baptist Church, a Mason, and a member of the Hejez Temple. He was a Veteran of the U. S. Army and served in World War II. Survivors include his wife, Lucille Harvey Mitchell; two brothers, W. E. "Ed" Mitchell and his wife Faye, and Paul E. Mitchell and his wife Pat, all of Inman; a sister, Sarah Catherine Mitchell DeLapp of Reidsville, NC; four nephews, Dr. Victor DeLapp and his wife Regina of Salem, VA, Charles McBride and his wife Patsy of Greenville, SC, James E. Mitchell and his wife Betty, and Phillip Stevens and his wife Lynn, all of Inman; four nieces, Susan DeLapp of Reidsville, NC, Ann Mitchell Reynolds and her husband Paul of Wellford, Denise Mitchell Allen and her husband Andrew of Concord, NC, and Gina Holcomb and her husband Ken of Spartanburg; many great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Mitchell Moore of Spartanburg, and Anne Lee Mitchell McBride of Greer. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 p.m. Monday, February 8, 2010, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel conducted by the Rev. Roye Lynn Kulik. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Inman, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Soup Kitchen, Second Presbyterian Church, 438 North Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303; or to the Alzheimer's Association, 901 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
