John Dover

John C. Dover, 75, of Pacolet, died Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born April 22, 1937, in Hiawassee, GA, he was the son of the late Robert Alonzo and Lula Mae Eller Dover. Mr. Dover was a retired principal of Pacolet Junior High School and also a former teacher and administrator in Spartanburg District 3 for many years. From 1986-1990 he was Mayor of Pacolet. He was also the former Pacolet Fire District Commissioner, Lions Club Man of the Year, Board member of First Citizens Bank in Pacolet, and member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. He was a graduate of Appalachian State University and received his Masters Degree from USC Upstate. A talented woodworker who shared those talents with the community, John loved his Lord and his family. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Marylin Calhoun Dover; daughters, Marcia Lynn Dover and her fiancé Alastair Prince of England, Michelle R. Dover of Campobello, SC; sons, Barry A. Dover of Boiling Springs, SC, and R. Brian Dover and wife Gloria of Boiling Springs; granddaughter, Caroline Dover Wilson of Greer, SC; grandsons, John C. Dover of Boiling Springs, SC, Paul A. Dover of Indian Trail, NC, and Ethan C. Dover of Boiling Springs, SC; and brother, Daniel Dover of Marietta, GA. He was predeceased by five brothers and one sister. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 PM Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, by Pastor Bobby Gilbert. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
