John Patrick "Pat" Cecil, 77, of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care. Born October 31, 1938, in Spartanburg County, SC, he was the son of the late Thurman White Cecil and Mary Constance Waters Cecil. A 1960 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Mr. Cecil was a veteran of the Vietnam War and he proudly served as a naval aviator before serving as a nuclear engineer on the USS Enterprise. Pat loved his family, friends, church, and the great outdoors. He was a general contractor and developer for many years and a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon and Elder. He was also a former Scout Leader, member of Sertoma, Fifth Grade Sunday School teacher, and Ladies Circle #4 Bible Study Leader. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Nancy Gray Cecil; sons, John Patrick Cecil, Jr. (Murray) of Spartanburg, SC, Nathan Robert Cecil (Annie) of Atlanta, GA, and Thurman Gray Cecil (Mindy) of Taylors, SC; grandchildren, Ellie, Lake, Cannon, and Daphne Cecil; brother, Thurman White Cecil, Jr. "Chip" of Spartanburg, SC; and brother-in-law, Cary Lee Page of Atlanta, GA. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Lynn Cecil Page. A memorial service honoring his life will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, June 26, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church, 393 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29302, by The Rev. Joanne Hull and The Rev. Ansley Page. Visitation will follow the service in the Parlor. At a later date, committal with military rites will be held at First Presbyterian Church Columbarium.
