John Bowen, Sr.

John Escar Bowen, Sr., 67, passed away Friday, May 6, 2011, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Born November 5, 1943, in Reidville, NC, he was the son of the late Escar Edward and Edna Lynette Dowdy Bowen. John retired from Transco after 30 years of service and continued to work in the pipeline industry until his death. He attended First Baptist Church of North Spartanburg. He was a quiet, gentle man who was a loving father and grandfather as well as a devoted Christian. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Survivors include two sons, John Bowen, Jr. and James (Melinda) Bowen; a sister, Mary Lynn (Larry) Somers; Mary E. Ryder Bowen; Carrie (David) Leggins and their children, Sara and Amanda; and a host of family and friends who will miss him greatly. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Michael S.
