John Bowden

John William "Dub" Bowden, 73, of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Valley Falls Terrace. Born October 4, 1940, in Winston-Salem, NC, he was the son of the late Arthur Eugene and Cleda Leah Atkins Bowden and husband, for 34 years, of the late Betty Elizabeth Stewart Bowden. Mr. Bowden was employed with Spector Freightlines for 30 years. He was a member of the Teamsters Union and Mountain View Baptist Church. Surviving are his children, Betty Ann McAbee (James) of Boiling Springs, SC, John Kevin Bowden of Carolina Beach, NC, William Eric Bowden of Spartanburg, SC, and Jason Keith (Jenny) of Boiling Springs, SC; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Ball and Nancy Smith, both of Kernersville, NC, Wanda Renegar of Winston-Salem, NC; brother, Jim Bowden (Jenny) of Walnut Cove, NC; and sister-in-law, Jean Bowden of Winston-Salem, NC. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Jasper Bowden. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Friday, March 28, 2014, at Floyd's Boiling Springs Chapel, 4161 Hwy 9 N, Boiling Springs, SC 29316, by the Rev. Alan Leonard and Mr. Jim Bowden. Burial will be in Good Shepherd Memorial Park, 4164 Boiling Springs Rd., Boiling Springs, SC 29316. Following the services, the family will receive friends at a reception at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, 4180 S. Carolina 9, Boiling Springs, SC 29316.
