John Clifton Behlert, 63, of Inman, SC, formerly of State College, PA, and Baltimore, MD, died Saturday, December 26, 2009, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born November 2, 1946, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Clifton Leonard and Rosemary Foutz Behlert. He was graduated from Towson Catholic High School in 1965 and the University of Baltimore in 1970. He was retired as a Pharmaceutical Representative for Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical Company (now Pfizer) for more than 29 years. He attended St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. An avid baseball player in his youth and because of his love of the game, he actively coached Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball from 1979-1994. He established Warehouse Baseball School for hitting and pitching, and was the main instructor from 1994-1999. He was instrumental in the original planning for a Minor League Baseball Team in Central Pennsylvania. Involved in youth programs, he began the Boy Scouts of America program at Our Lady of Victory Elementary School in 1985, continued as Scout Master for several years and was the original co-owner of Centre Stables Equestrian facility in Pennsylvania Furnace, PA, in 1992. After retirement in 1999, he became an active contributor to the local, county, state and national Republican Party, and an enthusiastic golfer. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Murphy Behlert, originally from Pontiac, MI; son, Jonathan Murphy Behlert and wife Tracie of Indian Wells, CA; daughter, Kelly Esayia Alge and husband Bradley of West Lafayette, IN; sister Judith Cox and husband Robin of Baltimore, MD; two half-brothers, Mark Behlert and wife Amy of Bel Air, MD, and William Behlert and wife Sun-Ho of Red Lion, PA; sisters-in-law, Patricia Miller and husband Vernon of Cedartown, GA, and Margaret Pappas and husband Nicholas of Novato, CA; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Elizabeth Behlert. Public viewing will be 7:00-9:00 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
