John Dixon Bane, 81, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born November 25, 1933, in Burlington, WV, he was the son of the late John H. and Lola Dixon Bane. Mr. Bane was a graduate of Keyser High School, received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Engineering from West Virginia University, and retired from Hoechst Fibers-Hoechst Celanese. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where he served with the United Methodist Men's Club and on various committees. John received the Order of the Arrow honor as a Boy Scout and was a former leader with BSA Troop #114. He loved to sing and was an active member of the Palmetto Statesman Barber Shop Chorus and the St. Paul Chancel Choir. He also volunteered with Mobile Meals Service. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Nancy Bow Bane of the home; children, John Robert Bane (Rene) of Bowie, MD, Susan Bane Tuttle (David) of Vestal, NY, Judy Bane Moss (Gary) of Seneca, SC, Joyce Bane of Newport Beach, CA, and Tom Bane (Cindy) of Irmo, SC; 10 grandchildren, Pallas Bane Schroth (Scott), Tucker Bane, Bryant Hastie, Loren Tuttle, Lesley Tuttle, Allie Moss Yongue (Kyle), Scott Moss, Zach Bane, Kara Bane, and Kristen Bane; sister, Pauleen Shaffer of San Luis Obispo, CA; cousins, Doris Jean and Dick Keller; and his beloved cocker spaniel, Millie. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Janet Bane Luzier. Visitation will be 3:00-4:30 PM Friday, July 17, 2015, in the sanctuary at St. Paul United Methodist Church with a memorial service following at 5:00 PM, conducted by the Rev. John L. Warren, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304; or St. Paul United Methodist Men's Club, 1320 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
