John Bailey

John Vernon Bailey, 88, of Spartanburg, died Sunday, April 24, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born October 21, 1922 in Moore, SC, he was the son of the late Robert L. and Nettie Sue Collins Bailey. He was retired after forty years of service from Piedmont Natural Gas and was a lifetime member of Central Church of Christ. Mr. Bailey was a U. S. Army Veteran of WWII. Survivors include his wife of sixty-eight years, Helen Cannady Bailey; two daughters, Brenda Hughes (Jimmy) of Moore and Susan Fitzgerald of Duncan; four granddaughters, Kim McKinney (Ben) of Roebuck, Candy Thornton (Phillip) of Pauline, Jennifer Cothran (Lee) of Roebuck and Lisa Fitzgerald of Columbia; two grandsons, Mark Hughes (Stephanie) of Roebuck, and Kennedy Fitzgerald of Columbia; and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Trammell; a sister, Clara Rodgers; and a brother, Henry Bailey. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, conducted by Mr. Ernie Thigpen. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
