Joe Tillotson

Joe C. "Scooter" Tillotson, 69, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, October 29, 2017, at his home. Born April 22, 1948, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Joseph Rufus and Margaret Cox Tillotson. Mr. Tillotson retired from O'Reilly's Automotive as store manager and was in the automobile parts industry for over 40 years. A very active servant for Christ, he was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, a devoted family-man, grandfather, and cherished friend. He loved beach music, sand between his toes, and his red birds singing in the yard. Survivors include his wife, Jana Carter Tillotson; daughters, Christina Tillotson (fiancé, Brandon Woodard) of Walhalla, SC and Laura Bailey (Lance) of Boiling Springs, SC; stepchildren, Matthew Helderman (Lexi) of Greer, SC and Cayce Helderman of Spartanburg, SC; grandsons, Bryce and Caidyn of Walhalla; aunt, Elizabeth "Lissie" Towe of Spartanburg, SC; uncle, Albert Tillotson of Spartanburg, SC; mother-in-law, Willie W. Carter of Spartanburg, SC; and a number of cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, September Brown Tillotson; and a sister, Cindy. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, November 2, 2017, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday, November 3, 2017, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, by Dr. Wayne Dickard and the Rev. Rufus Chaneyworth. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
