Joe Hembree

Joe L. "Papa" Hembree, 81, of Roebuck, SC, died Thursday, January 7, 2016, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born August 5, 1934, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Henry Claude and Lois Gowan Hembree. "Papa Joe" loved his children and grandchildren. He was a member and deacon at Philadelphia Baptist Church and a member of the Faithful Sunday School Class. He retired from the Charles Lea Center. Surviving are his cherished wife of 55 years, Rachel Bishop Hembree; sons, Mark Hembree (Shadana) and Gregg Hembree (Lisa), all of Roebuck, SC; beloved grandchildren, Seth, Nikki, and Matt; brothers, Donald Hembree (Betty), Earl Hembree (Margie), Mack Hembree (Ann), and Jerry Hembree; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and Ansel Floyd; and sister-in-law, Judy Hembree. Visitation will be 2:00-3:15 PM Sunday, January 10, 2016, at Philadelphia Baptist Church, 3119 Hwy 56, Pauline, SC 29374. Funeral services will follow at 3:30 PM, at the church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Greg Butler, the Rev. Charles Eaton, and the Rev. Jimmy Farmer. Burial will be in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.
