Joe Lane Greenlee, Jr., of Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, January 7, 2022 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born January 20, 1939 in Rutherford County, NC, he was the son of the late Joe Lane and Margaret Marie Green Greenlee.
A US Navy Reserve veteran, Mr. Greenlee was retired from Wofford College as Director of Public Safety, where he also earned his Bachelor of Science degree. A member of Bethel United Methodist Church, he was an usher, who also served on various committees, and a member of Opportunity Sunday School class.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Martha Reid Toms Greenlee, his sons, Jonathan L. Greenlee (Tanya) of Spartanburg, SC and Avery B. Greenlee (Elizabeth) of Summerville, SC; his four grandchildren, Sarah Greenlee, Lane Greenlee, Hampton Greenlee and Ellis Greenlee, his brother, Roy Greenlee (Carol) of Goose Creek, SC, and his four-legged fur baby, Giggsy. Along with his parents, he was also predeceased by siblings, James Clint “J.C.” Greenlee, Larry Wayne Greenlee, and Barbara Hall Greenlee.
Visitation will be 12:30 – 1:30 PM Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Bethel United Methodist Church Parlor, 245 S. Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM at the church sanctuary, conducted by The Rev. Brad Gray and The Rev. Megan Gray. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wofford Terrier Club, in Memory of Joe L. Greenlee, Jr., 429 N. Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303 or Bethel United Methodist Church, 245 S. Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
