Joe Dean Gault, 97, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, November 11, 2021. Born July 8, 1924 in Blacksburg, SC, he was the son of the late Bea and Faye Wylie Gault and the husband of the late Dorothy Louise Plyler Gault.
A US Army veteran, Mr. Gault was retired from Spartanburg Technical College as their first President. He earned his M.Ed., of Education from The University of South Carolina and his B.S., Physics, at Clemson University.
In 2014, at the age of 90, he made his third skydive to become a member of the JONS, the Jumpers Over Ninety Society. He was JONS # 4. Joe earned his pilot license in the 1960’s and was an avid ham radio operator, his handle was W4WZ. He was a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his sons, Steven Gault and his wife, Lou; and Kevin Gault, his daughter, Susan Gault, his granddaughter, Anna, all of Spartanburg, and his brother, Hubert Gault and his wife, Maxine, of Blacksburg, SC, along with his feline babies, Doofus and Roofus. He was also predeceased by his sister, Doris Triplett.
Graveside service to be held will be for family only.
Visitation will be at 1:00 – 5:00 PM Sunday, November 21, 2021 at 708 Fernwood Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
