Joe Cleland

Joe Cleland, 79, of Spartanburg, SC died Friday, August 6, 2021 at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born June 21, 1942 in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Charles Smith and Ruth Newton Cleland.

Joe was a 1963 graduate of Spartanburg Junior College. Joe was a member of Morningside Baptist Church in Spartanburg for five years. He was previously an active member of First Baptist Spartanburg, where he was an Ordained Deacon and drove the church bus.

Joe loved his Lord, his wife Nancy of 52 years, Scouting with his three sons, and woodworking. He adored his seven grandchildren and his constant companion (fur-baby) Maggie. He was a self-taught pianist while in his 60’s.

Survivors include his loving wife, Nancy Cleland of the home, sons, Sam Cleland (Cesilie), Jack Cleland (Christina), Jeff Cleland (Mary Ann), his grandchildren, Jackson, Wilson, Andrew, Joshua, Camille, and Malcolm, all of Spartanburg.  He was also predeceased by a granddaughter, Grace, and his brothers, Wilson Cleland and Charles Cleland.

Visitation will be 4:00 – 6:00 PM Sunday, August 8, 2021 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Graveside service will be 10:00 AM Monday, August 9, 2021 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by Mr. Bill Burnett.
