Joanne Prince Halford, 81, of Spartanburg, died Thursday, June 21, 2012, at her home. Born February 27, 1931, in Spartanburg, she was the widow of James E. Halford Sr., and daughter of the late Wilbur Eugene Prince Sr. and Ruth West Prince. Mrs. Halford retired from the City of Spartanburg as a crossing guard at Pine Street School after 29 years of service and also retired from St. Matthew's Episcopal Church Pre-School. She was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church where she served with the Altar Guild and the Nursery Department. She was also a member of the Tallulah Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are her sons, Gene Halford of the home, James Edward Halford Jr. and Joyce E. Smith of Boiling Springs, and Philip Lee Halford Sr. and wife Lynn of Spartanburg; daughter, Suzie H. Thomas and husband Neil of Chesnee; grandchildren, Geoffrey Neil David Thomas, Philip Lee Halford, and Joshua James Halford; sisters, Martha P. Womick and husband Steve of Pauline, and Susie Crane and husband Joe of Spartanburg; brother, Steve Prince and wife Cheryl of Navarre, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Nicole Elizabeth Halford; and grandson, Gregory James Michael Thomas. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday, June 24, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, June 25, 2012, at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, by the Rev. Robert L. Brown and the Rev. Charles Smith. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to St. Matthew's Episcopal Church Pre-School Fundraiser, 101 St. Matthews Lane, Spartanburg, SC 29301. The family is at the home.
