Joanne George

Joanne Cynthia Westlund George, 81, of Boiling Springs, SC, died Monday, January 19, 2015, at her home. Born April 9, 1933, in Worchester, MA, she was the daughter of the late Austin Valdemir Westlund and Doris Ida MacNiven Westlund. She was the widow of William George. Mrs. George retired from Converse College as the personal assistant to the Dean of Women after many years of service. She was an avid golfer, a member of the LPGA and Three Pines Country Club. Joanne was a golfer and bowler who loved her family, her special friends and neighbors, and most of all her two grandsons. Survivors include her children, Doris G. Rennert (Richard) of Arlington, VA, Chris G. Walters (J. R.) of Columbia, SC, and Billy George of Covington, GA; grandsons, John and William Walters of Columbia, SC; sister, Charlotte Lynn Gabrielson of Harrisville, RI; and brother, Bruce Morgan Westlund of Hubbardston, MA. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, John Austin Westlund. Visitation will be 2:45-3:45 PM Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC. A celebration of her life will follow at 4:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jeannie Saylor and Mr. John "Boots" Boutselis.
