Sarah Jo "JoAnn" Cox Sexton Whitlock, 73, of Moore, died Saturday, March 19, 2011, at her home. Born April 13, 1937, in Inman, SC, she was a daughter of the late Jess Franklin and Marie Hart Cox. She was predeceased by her former husband, Haskel Sexton and was the widow of Charles R. Whitlock. Mrs. Whitlock worked in the accounting departments at Spartanburg General Hospital and Cryovac before joining the family businesses, Sexton Diesel Service and Sexton Construction Company. She was an Avon Representative for over 19 years, an insurance agent for Farm Bureau, a licensed Real Estate Agent, and a Notary. She was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the Daughters of the King, and volunteered vast amounts of time to the Food Pantry as well as other charities. Sarah was a former member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a choir member. She was a member and former treasurer of the South Carolina Cattlewomen's Association, a volunteer at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center and Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, a member of Eastern Star, and a tutor for Adult Education & Literacy. Survivors include a son, Haskel Sexton, II and wife Crystal of Moore; two sisters, Jessie Gregory of Inman and Lula Elizabeth Hayes of Moore; and four grandchildren, Christian Truett Sexton, William Hamblin Sexton, Haskel Sexton III, and Anna Marie Garrett. Extended family includes Daughters of the King, Merry Widows, and other church family. She was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Jo Sexton, and a sister, Joyce Devlin. Visitation will be 7:00-9:00 PM Monday, March 21, 2011, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel. Funeral services will be 4:00 PM Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, conducted by the Rev. Robert L. Brown. Honorary Escorts will be Daughters of the King and Merry Widows. Memorials may be made to St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 101 St. Matthews Lane, Spartanburg, SC 29301; or to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family is at the home of her son, Haskel Sexton II, 656 Highway 417, Moore, SC 29369.
